Three Crew Transfer Vessels

This cross-continental shipment of three Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) from Singapore to Southampton, showcases more than just Commercial Marine Transport’s (CMT) logistical expertise, it is a demonstration of its seamless collaborative synergy capabilities, working closely with Peters & May’s racing and leisure departments. Loaded with three CTVs, three yachts, a superyacht, a catamaran, and additional yachts, the MV Ronnie cargo ship was fully and efficiently loaded when it began its voyage to the UK.

Crew Transfer Vessels shipment

Loaded from two separate Singapore factories, both the High-Speed Transfer Marine (HST) CTVs and the Farra Marine CTV are integral vessels destined to assist in offshore wind service operations around Europe.

The Farra Marine CTV, measuring 27-metres by 9-metres and weighing 110 tonnes, was the first vessel to be loaded. This vessel required a tandem lift onboard due to the load-bearing role and central positioning it would take in the cargo hold.

A tandem lift is a complex lifting method that employs two cranes working simultaneously for its execution. Often this method is necessary for uneven weight distributions, oddly shaped vessels, and for strategic placement like in this case. Employing two cranes meant the loadmasters were able to safely and accurately distribute the vessels’ weight and direct its precise positioning, ready for the two HST CTVs to subsequently be loaded.

The next stage of the loading process was to orchestrate the hoisting of the two HST CTVs, the HST Plymouth and the HST Swansea, onto the MV Ronnie cargo ship. Both Swansea and Plymouth are 28-metre-long and 9-metre-wide offshore supply vessels, strategically positioned on either side of the Farra Marine CTV, enhancing the load stability of the cargo ship.

Both vessels were specifically designed with unique, strategically integrated lifting lugs to enable safe hoisting and a simplified lifting process. Compatible with a single pick lift, one of the simpler and safer lifts in ensuring equal weight distribution, CMT experts executed the operation seamlessly.

This successful transportation of multiple CTVs was carried out on the MV Ronnie, a cargo ship selected for its capacity to handle large assets securely across long distances.

Collaboration effort across departments

Though the strategic placement, heavy-loading, and long-distance shipment of three CTVs is an incredible shipment, this shipment was also an exemplary demonstration of cross-departmental collaboration at Peters & May.

Transported on the MV Ronnie, this cargo ship was selected for its capacity to handle large assets securely across long distances. Thanks to combined efforts and expertise of Peters & Mays commercially focused departments, including leisure, racing, and commercial, the fully loaded MV Ronnie completed its voyage from Singapore to Southampton with success.

Onboard MV Ronnie, the leisure team bought expertise in the handling of three luxury yachts and a superyacht, whilst the racing team contributed valuable insight into the loading of motorboats and a catamaran alongside the three crew transfer vessels.

Meeting stringent timelines and requirements, while having multiple industry specific vessels onboard, this shipment demonstrates Peters & May’s adaptability, industry knowledge, and operational cost-effectiveness, all while staying committed to consistently delivering an excellent service.

“We live and breathe multiple-vessel shipments, and frequently transport multiple offshore vessels simultaneously, but the real accomplishment with this shipment is the collaborate efforts across our departments. Together, we prepared and delivered an expertly loaded cargo ship serving multiple sectors, on time and within budget.”

Through close collaboration, the team were able to maximise the space and resources available on the MV Ronnie, further highlighting Peters & May’s logistical planning and competitive pricing.
