The transportation of the 52-metre Austal Alu Cat Fast Ferry from New Caledonia to Piraeus, Greece, was one of Peters & May’s most ambitious projects. Spanning a distance of 14,700 miles, the operation demanded precise logistical planning and coordination.
Robert Blades, Global Commercial Sales Manager at Peters & May, reflected on the project, stating, “We’re so proud to have orchestrated this job over months of communication between Peters & May and the client. Having delivered the project to spec and to budget, it’s another success story for our bespoke, personal approach.”
This project not only demonstrated our ability to handle large-scale maritime logistics but also solidified our reputation for delivering tailored transport solutions in challenging conditions.
Commercial Marine Transport (CMT) successfully managed the transport of two 70-metre river cruise vessels using the Float-on/Float-off (Flo/Flo) method, demonstrating their expertise in handling large and sensitive cargo. These luxury vessels, designed for comfortable river cruising, required meticulous handling to ensure their structural integrity during the journey.
The Flo/Flo method involved using a semi-submersible vessel, which partially submerged in water to allow the river cruise vessels to be floated onboard. Once in position, the vessel re-ballasted and rose out of the water, securing the cargo for transport. This innovative method significantly reduced the risk of damage, as it avoided the heavy lifting that could strain or compromise the vessels’ structure.
Throughout the operation, CMT’s team of experts carefully coordinated the ballasting, stability, and securing processes, ensuring a smooth and secure transit. The project highlighted CMT’s ability to manage intricate logistics, particularly for large and unusually shaped vessels. This successful operation underscored CMT’s commitment to delivering complex maritime transport solutions with precision, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of high-value assets across international waters.
Commercial Marine Transport (CMT) is managing the complex transport of the high-speed catamaran Redjet 4 from Southampton, UK, to South Korea. Built by the Isle of Wight-based shipbuilder, Redjet 4 has served as an essential part of the ferry network operating between Southampton and the Isle of Wight since its launch in 2003. Known for its speed and efficiency, the vessel has been a vital component in reducing travel times across the Solent.
Coordinated from CMT’s headquarters near Southampton, this project involved meticulous planning and technical expertise to ensure the safe shipment of the iconic vessel. Given Redjet 4’s high-performance design, the CMT team utilised advanced loading techniques to secure the ferry and maintain its structural integrity during transit. Customised cradling and lashing methods were employed to stabilise the vessel for its journey across international waters.
This operation underscores CMT’s expertise in handling complex and high-value maritime shipments, particularly from its local base in Southampton. The Redjet 4 transport highlights CMT’s commitment to delivering tailored, efficient solutions for even the most challenging global marine logistics projects, while also marking the next chapter in the journey of a vessel with a rich local history.
